In my youth, which honestly was not that long ago being that I am 25 years of age, I was a boy scout and I loved what they we’re and what they we’re about. As a Catholic we fully supported scouting and enjoyed that they we’re a group that had morals and values and we’re not perpetuating the bullies in the pop culture race. However as of this week, amid scorn and anger, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) have effectively ended the life span of their organization and have dropped all meaning from their group. They succumbed to pop culture and have decided to allow gay boy scouts to join and be openly gay members in the organization. As a previous Boy Scout myself I am very dismayed and very disappointed that the leaders of the BSA felt that pop culture superseded the point of their entire organization and compromised the BSA for a pat on the back from society’s most vocal minority.
On my honor I will do my best, To do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
That above is the Boy Scout oath. An oath taken seriously by millions and millions of scouts through out decades and decades of American history since 1910. Now it’s entirely meaningless and is worth as much as a cow paddy in an empty field. Read it line by line and you find yourself questioning how such a morally declining organization can fulfill this oath. No scout can now say these words and mean them because their entire organization now contradicts this oath. Pop Culture and the advocates of PC will never see it this way however. To these types of people scouting is about camping, crafts, and arts, and stuff like that….so to exclude homosexual teens of course is discrimination. In fact the BSA has always been about morals, and values, and has worked closely with religions…and these religions feel that homosexuality is a sin and is immoral. So these PC people never really understood scouting in their plight to corrupt it. On a side note I am convinced that the civil rights leaders of the segregation periods of America, such as Martin Luther King, are rolling in their grave over the misuse of the word “discrimination“. To those that knew real discrimination this entire pop culture homosexuality issue must seem awfully simple and petty.
Speaking of discrimination we can hardly dismiss that when females wanted to join the boy scouts such individuals did not exist and that all females we’re simply just rebuffed. Thus with nowhere to go and a purpose the Girl Scouts of America formed. No one forced the BSA to accept females. There was no great pop culture outrage, no petitions, and no politicians speaking out. It was simply go away-the BSA is a private organization and we will not bend for you. How hypocritical must older females of the girl scouts who wanted to join the boy scouts at a young age must feel the BSA is. What sort of face-palming are they doing right now?
It was mentioned at the start of this article that the BSA had effectively killed themselves as an organization. While the compromising of all that makes up their organization does seem like a pretty lethal blow we as Americans also unfortunately know that money is what turns the world. In fact the BSA is largely funded and supported by religious institutions and moral groups. These groups pay the bills and allow the BSA to do what they want, when they want, and why they want with almost vibrant freedom based on trust. However most of these groups have already said in the past few weeks that if such a resolution was passed that they would drop their support and funding. So now no one is paying the bills and where does that money come from? Either Pop Culture will dig deep into their personal pockets to rescue the crumbling organization or it will sink into the hole that the BSA, itself, created. Metaphorically speaking…it’s own grave site.
As people of belief have done over centuries of persecution they will once again adapt and overcome and I suspect this will be accomplished by the birth of a new organization that does hold true to what the BSA once was. It’s no secret that over 500K parents have already signed a petition to leave the Boy Scouts with their young scouts if this resolution was passed. I would expect to see a great scouting schism in the next 2-3 weeks. In any case I no longer support the Boy Scouts of America and neither does Patriots Movement.
